The OUTSIDER PARTY is an alternative party in Braunschweig.
Unfortunately, it’s now noticeable in the so-called “Gothic scene” that certain “hits” are played endlessly in the usual nightclubs, while newcomers, older bands, or bands outside the “subculture mainstream” are almost never heard.
My response to this imbalance is the OUTSIDER PARTY.
The idea for the party dates back to 2001. It’s meant to be a party where primarily long-forgotten or never-before-heard (or far too rarely heard) music is played – which, of course, doesn’t exclude the occasional “hit.”
Musically, the focus is on death/goth rock, minimal, and dark cabaret. The line between punk and metal is roughly drawn at the Misfits, between electro and minimal, between mainstream and Placebo, and between metal and Fields of the Nephilim – and I think there’s plenty of room in between for good music off the beaten track.
There definitely won’t be any medieval rock, EBM, industrial, goth metal, futurepop, “soul ache music,” etc. 🙂
The party concept features either a guest DJ or one (or more) live band(s) for many dates. For example, DJ SunDog played at the first event in April 2004, and at the second party, three bands – Murder at the Registry, New Days Delay, and Bats in the Belfry – always true to the motto “more for your money.”
From July 2007, Anya_Strange joined the core lineup of the Outsider Party, promising even more variety.
Unfortunately, the party is currently on hiatus.
