18 September 2021: Frank the Baptist in Hamburg

18.09.2021: Frank the Baptist in Hamburg

Live concerts are a little complicated during a pandemic. But still there was a gig by FRANK THE BAPTIST on 18 September on the unique MS STUBNITZ in Hamburg. The city has one of the most restrictive covid regulations in Germany, so at the entrance showing your ticket alongside your vaccination certificate was the start, and inside masks were mandatory unless you were standing or sitting in one place. Also there was a limit of only 50 attendees – thus, the gig was sold out.

In the belly of the former freeze & transport vessel of the German Democratic Republic high seas fishing fleet, TELEGRAM FRANK started the evening, the solo project of Frank Vollmann. Just with an acoustic guitar and his distinctive voice he told stories in and with his songs, and the odd laugh or two were not missing either.

Aftwerwards, FRANK THE BAPTIST played in full band lineup, including the birthday boy Gerrit and the old new band member Fez Wrecker on the two guitars. The band played a successful cross-section of their work from the last 20 years, and as an encore, friends jumped in on guitar and bass and together they did two successful Pink Floyd covers. The audience may not have been numerous due to the restrictions, but this did not diminish the atmosphere and the applause.

Conclusion

Amazing gig of a great band in a unique location – what more can you ask for?
